De mutuo faciendo

De mutuo faciendo
Lit. 'about obtaining loans (of money)'. During Henry Vl's reign the crown was heavily in debt; indeed it owed twice its annual revenue. Commissions de mutuo faciendo were despatched around the country to raise money from those thought to be wealthy enough to oblige the king, which might be as many as 400. During Henry Vl's reign 17 such commissions were sent out. However, they rarely raised much.
